The Road to 100 Marathons
Trailwalker 27th July 2013 Number Four
This is a Sponsored Race for Oxfam and the Gurkhas Regiment. It is a four man team and you run or walk 100 km and have to stay as a team and also raise at least £1500.
We picked a name of Wessex Runners and although I was running on average about 70 miles a week during the build up and felt really fit for it I had to go at the slowest mans pace on the team. Starting at Queens Elizabeth Park on the South Downs it was race to Brighton Race Course. We started at 6 am and went for it, with aid stations and our support team we did not need to carry any kit apart from water if you wanted to.
There were over 400 teams but made up of a lot of walkers with a few military teams that were going for the record. The winning team of Gurkhas finished with a time of 11:13:00 and we came in at 17:48:46 and in 23rd place beating the team from 2 Para who came in 26th. Not bad for a team of 48 years old and older.
